Terms, cancellations & eligibility

Plain-language terms covering use of this website, booking and cancelling a session, who can participate, and the safety rules every session follows.

Terms of use

MyRangeBuddy.com is published by MyRangeBuddy, a one-person private firearms instruction service based in Montclair, New Jersey. By using this website you agree to these terms.

Site content, photographs, and written notes are the property of MyRangeBuddy unless otherwise credited, and may not be republished without permission. Product names, range names, and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used only for identification.

Booking a session is a request, not a confirmed reservation. A session is confirmed only when I reply and confirm the date, location, and fee in writing.

Cancellation and refund policy

Plans change and ranges close. If you need to cancel or reschedule, email me as early as you can and I will work with you.

  • Cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours before the session: no charge, or a full refund of anything already paid.
  • Cancel within 48 hours: I will try to reschedule at no cost, but a deposit may be retained if range time or facility fees were already committed.
  • No-show without notice: the session fee is not refundable.
  • If I cancel, or if weather, range closure, or a facility decision makes the session unsafe or unavailable, you receive a full refund or a rescheduled date, whichever you prefer.
  • A session ended early for a safety reason, or because a participant is impaired or unable to follow instructions, is not refundable.

Participant eligibility

Every participant must meet the requirements below, and must also satisfy the separate rules of whichever range facility hosts the session. Range facilities are independent businesses and set their own eligibility, check-in, and membership policies.

  • Be legally permitted to possess and handle a firearm under all applicable federal, state, and local law.
  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older unless a specific session for a younger participant has been approved in advance and is permitted by applicable law and the host range’s rules.
  • Present valid government-issued photo identification.
  • Complete and sign the participant waiver, registration form, and range safety acknowledgment before any live fire.
  • Be free of alcohol, cannabis, and any impairing substance before and during the session.
  • Tell the instructor before the session if you need an accommodation or have any limitation that may affect your ability to safely handle a firearm or follow range instructions. You do not need to disclose a diagnosis or other unnecessary medical information.

Safety rules

Safety instructions from me, from any Range Safety Officer, and from range staff are followed at all times and without exception. Every session runs on the universal safety rules: treat every firearm as loaded, never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy, keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target, and know your target and what is beyond it.

Eye and ear protection are required on the firing line. Participants purchase their own eye and ear protection, which is available at most ranges.

The full written range safety rules and code of conduct are on the Waivers & Forms page and are signed before live fire. I may end a session at any time if a safety rule is disregarded.

Firearm law varies by jurisdiction

Firearm, ammunition, transport, and carry laws differ by state, county, and municipality, and they change. Nothing on this site is legal advice. Each participant is responsible for knowing and complying with the laws that apply to them and for confirming current requirements with the appropriate authority or a qualified attorney.

MyRangeBuddy does not issue licenses or permits, does not administer or certify New Jersey carry qualification, does not conduct law-enforcement qualification, and does not issue government or NRA course completion certificates.

Relationship to the participant waiver

These terms do not replace the signed release of liability, assumption of risk, and indemnification agreement that every participant completes before a session. Where the signed waiver and these terms differ, the signed waiver controls.
